I've been writing recreationally since I was... 11 years old I think. I wrote a rather lengthy poem titled My Worst Christmas which ended up being published in a book titled A Celebration of Pennsylvania's Young Poets (not 100% on the title). That was Sixth grade. Seventh grade I wrote a poem titled It's Our Responsibility about pollution which was also published in a similar poetry book as the former.
Being published twice you'd think I'd go for a third, but no. I quit writing. I did my school assignments and enjoyed them, but never made the efforts I'd made when I was 11 & 12.
Then one day, I was 17, I was in the hot tub in my backyard in PA and was just inspired by the dark beauty that nighttime in Bucks County offers. I ran out of the hot tub, grabbed a small pocket-size notebook and pen, ran back into the hot tub and began writing while making sure not to get my notebook wet. The title of that poem is While I Sit Pondering, and I was proud of it because it brought the writing bug back in me.
I wrote several poems before leaving on my mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That was so long ago I honestly couldn't tell you off the top of my head if I wrote any on my mission.
After my mission I went to school in Idaho and wrote dozens and dozens of poems. This is where I wrote a short story or two also.
I used to be WAAAAAAAY more religious than I am now, so you'll notice a Christian theme in some of my poetry.

I found writing to be a healthy release, a way to work out feelings I had inside me that I didn't understand, didn't like, or just wanted to write about.
I hope you enjoy what I've written.
